Gallipoli was a failed ally invasion that was to end the war early much like D Day. By making another front the German Army would be split in half having to help their Turkish allies. On February 19, 1915 the naval bombardment began on Gallipoli under command of Admiral Carden. On March 18, the British Navy lost three battleships with an additional three being crippled disabling 2/3 of the naval fleet. On March 22, 1915 the fleet left to rearm and regroup in Alexandria leaving the ground invasion force alone Gallipoli. Later a new invasion force landed north of the original invasion group. Through gruesome fighting the British could not break through the Turkish strongholds and pulled out causing a major loss in life and motivation for the British Armed Forces.
