a Triumph and A Failure. How did they impact the war?
During the World Wars, there were many great successes and failures. Arguably the greatest failure of the allies was the Battle of Gallipoli. In 1915, the allies attempted to control the sea route by leading a naval attack on Gallipoli. But because of insufficient knowledge and lack of funds, the operation failed. Because of this in World War 2, the allies were able to learn from their mistakes and execute a successful operation to give them a big edge in the war.
D Day on the other hand was very successful for the allied forces. On June 6, 1944, US, Canadian, and British forces stormed the beaches of Normandy. Much like Gallipoli, this was an amphibious landing. However this one was much more successful. Over 130,000 troops landed on five beaches. Over a six week period, Allied troops destroyed much of the German army and began spilling into France. During the six week period, the US lost roughly 10,000 troops. Canada and British lost a combined 3,700 troops. Had they not stormed the beaches, then it would have taken much longer to get into France and the war would have been prolonged. During D-Day the Americans had many successes over failures. During D-Day the Americans had many successes over failures. One great success was that the allies tricked the Germans in thinking we were landing on the north of Pas de Calais rather than the real landing areas. This was great because it caused a distraction to the Germans and helped the allies get across enemy lines and get a head up. Also another great success was the fact that the allies used all land, air, and sea elements going against the Germans. This caused an overwhelming swarm of troops that was too much for the Germans to handle. Next because of the great leaders of the allies they had all the tactics in hand. Basically they knew exactly the best tactical places to land to storm the Germans. All of these above points lead to great success for the allies in turn winning this battle for them.
